Welcome

Thanks for visiting the Game Turn Developer Page. Game Turn is still very early in it's development, I welcome any help or input anyone would like to provide.

The source code for Game Turn is available on the Download page.

Philosophy

Game Turn's goal is to allow war gamers to take full advantage of the Internet and PC's, taking care of the drudgery involved in playing war games while retaining the enjoyable parts for the players.

Game Turn is open source so that it can spread as far and as wide as possible. As an avid Grognard, the developer of this software wants to play as many games and opponents as possible. I'm hoping this software will make that possible. But I also want the computer to handle some of the work! Tasks like tracking supply lines or marking which units have moved should be taken care of by this software. Game Turn will always expose how it's calculting items like supply (and allow the player to override what it's doing), but remove from the player the burden of manually calculating, in this example, the supply state of every unit on every turn.

To sum up, we want to keep the fun, keep the learning and exploration, but allow the software to handle what we want to delegate to it.

Milestones

When finished Game Turn will have four major components:

  1. Player - The software players use when playing a game. A desktop Windows application.
  2. Author - The tool used to adapt games for use in Game Turn.
  3. Web Site - This web site will allow players to find opponents and games.
  4. Server - A server to allow players who cannot connect Peer to Peer to play live. The server will facilitate multiplayer games. The server can also be used in situations like tournaments to prohibit cheating.

The Game Turn roadmap of release milestones:

"Dogfood": Non-computer assisted Author/Player that work together

"Cat Chow": Computer assist movement and combat added

"Shark": Card handling added

"Spider": Web functionality (upload/download gameboxes).
